Marino Vanhoenacker wins Ironman Austria for the fourth time

Marino Vanhoenacker wins Ironman Austria for the fourth time/ So far only Mark Allen, Cameron Brown and Chris McCormack celebrated one more victory in a row at an Ironman

On Sunday Marino Vanhoenacker was the celebrated winner at Ironman Austria, by now he won Klagenfurt four times in a row. Nobody has achieved this before. The 32-year-old athlete of the Commerzbank Triathlon Team who already performed course record at Ironman South Africa in April, even beat his personal record and set a new mark at 8:01:38 hours.

The Belgian was excited about his outstanding result: „I didn’t dare to dream of such a great result. Performing a race up front on your own makes it really difficult to keep up the speed. But I made it, thanks to the amazing fans in Kärnten.“

Almost ats the same time his team colleagues Timo Bracht and Mathias Hecht achieved a first and a fifth place at Ironman Germany:  „This was an unbelievable weekend for our team. Now we are complete for the World Championship on Hawaii in October. The next three months we will be fully concentrating on the
world’s biggest Ironman competition.“

There are only three athletes who have won an Ironman more than four times in a row: Cameron Brown won from 2001 to 2005 the Ironman New Zealand in his home country. Chris McCormack achieved first place at Ironman Australia from 2002-2006. And the legendary Mark Allen won Ironman Hawaii five times
in a row (1989 – 1993).
