Macca Wins 70.3 Taiwan, PD Athletes have another great weekend
Profile Athlete and Ironman World Champion Chris “Macca” McCormack was never tested as he ran away with the Taiwan70.3 title in Kenting.
Macca, who has spent most of the 2011 season chasing a spot on the Australian triathlon team for next year’s Olympics inLondon, again showed why at age 38 he remains among the best in the world at all distances.
Macca’s manager Scott Fairchild commented that nobody thought a 38 year old long distance guy would have a ghost of a chance against 21 year old speedsters, but they didn’t count on Macca.
Because ITU style racing allows drafting on the bike, the team would be wise to add a strong experienced cyclist like McCormack to pull the faster runners up to the main pack and improve their medal chances.
The 2012 season should be an exciting one as Macca continues his quest to represent Australia in London next summer.
Closer to home, Matty “Boom Boom” Reed won the Amica 19.7 sprint race for his third win in 3 weeks.
After a few weeks of recovery from his strong finish at the Ford Ironman World Championships 4 weeks ago, he won theGalveston 5150 Olympic distance, last week’s Miami 70.3, and added the 19.7 sprint title to his results.
Another multi-talented Profile Design Athlete, Charisa Wernick, finished 2nd in the sprint race as well. Two weeks ago, she finished 2nd at the SOMA half Ironman,
and will spend the next 2 weeks finishing her preparations for Ironman Arizona on November 20th.
